A member of the Executive Office of the Union in charge of the social and solidarity economy, Quraish Balghith, in turn, confirmed that there have been several attempts during the recent period to overthrow the head of the organization without referring to its institutions and its basic law.
In the same context, Balghith stressed the independence of the agricultural organization, saying that neither the Presidency of the Republic nor the Presidency of the Government have the right to interfere in this professional structure.
And he added, “Following the meeting of the Central Council, Thursday, May 12, 2022, in Kairouan, which the head of the organization, Abdel Majid Al-Zar, called for, according to what the statute authorizes him exclusively, which led to the unanimous consent of 85 members of the Central Council, representing approximately two-thirds of the quorum, that no There is room for the intervention of any institution other than the presidency of the republic or the presidency of the government by influencing the management of the organization, and accordingly what happened today is considered a poorly directed coup attempt, and that the role will come to the rest of the organizations if they do not unite in a position condemning such blatant interventions.
For his part, a member of the executive office of the federation, Hatem Mansi, stated that the meeting, which was held, on Wednesday, at the central headquarters, is considered legal, according to the statute, in its seventh chapter, specifically paragraph 11, which provides for holding a second meeting of the organization within a week, after A change occurred in the venue of the meeting scheduled at the central headquarters on May 11, 2022 to be held in Kairouan, which is considered invalid, according to his assessment, due to the lack of a quorum.
In the same context, Mansi confirmed that one-third of the organization’s members attended a meeting, Wednesday, at the central headquarters of the agricultural organization in the capital, to deliberate on the point of structuring the organization and take the decision to withdraw confidence from Abdel Majid Al-Zar and elect Noureddine Ben Ayyad as head of the organization unanimously.
It is noteworthy that the head of the National Coordination for Correcting the Course of the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fishing, Fakhreddine Torgoman, had called during a press conference held on February 8, 2022, the Minister of Agriculture, the Presidency of the Government and the President of the Republic to freeze and dissolve the current executive office of the union.
Torgoman also called for intervention and saving the agricultural organization and the formation of a temporary committee to organize premature, transparent and fair elections, in addition to amending the Basic Law, which was updated in 2018, according to the personal interests of the members of the current executive office.
