The professional assembly of rubber converters and manufacturers of the Tunisian Citizen Institutions Organization (CONACT) of business owners and workers will carry out an open sit-in in front of the General Administration of Customs starting Thursday, May 19, 2022, according to a communiqué issued by the assembly, on Monday.

The complex stated that the decision to engage in an open sit-in came as a result of the failure to respond to the correspondences made by Connect organization on February 11, 2022, March 10, 2022 and May 13, 2022, through which it demanded to meet the Director General of the Customs in an effort to find urgent and radical solutions for this sector and the above-mentioned institutions and their workers, which have All that indicates the legality of its activity by the sovereign authorities.

The sit-in comes to demand the immediate release of the containers and trucks located in Tunisian ports, which arrived on Tunisian soil before the customs decision to stop the supply.

The Assembly also demands that the matter be returned to what it was, according to the licenses provided by the state and according to the documents obtained. As well as the commitment to find urgent solutions to enable the owners of institutions to obtain the necessary licenses for the maintenance of the shop after they lost their shops as a result of their inability to obtain the rental aids.

The assembly also calls for the establishment of a program that brings together all parties in order to find solutions between the institutions of the assembly and the Tunisian state that will benefit all parties, by agreeing on a schedule of interviews in which the professional assembly must be a party.

The professional structure expressed its “deep dissatisfaction with the arbitrary administrative practices that the institutions operating in the sector have been subjected to by the Tunisian customs authorities about two years ago, after an arbitrary unilateral decision was taken by these interests to stop the activity of the importing, diverting and re-exporting rubber wheels. He explained that in the year 2020, the activity of rubber supply companies was stopped, by preventing these institutions from carrying out customs operations by freezing their customs identifiers for import and export without writing to them, such as alerting them or based on a legal text that prohibits their activity.

The assembly considered that the customs decision came in opposition to the classification of the General Administration of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce and Export Development and the General Administration for Environment and Quality of Life at the Ministry of Environment of the rubber tires used internationally and nationally within a private legal framework that is not objected to by the competent technical agencies and is licensed to make related investments through Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Renewal.

He pointed out that in the context of assessing “the nature of the customs work in view of the technical nature of the work of our institutions, we have reviewed all the intervening departments through written consultations to refute all the legal and technical impurities of our sector’s activity and what we have taken into account in light of the ignoring of the concerned customs authorities and the difficulty of the current situation of our legitimate requests, a categorical rejection of all forms of dialogue With what is to come, even though we have provided all the actual guarantees and are ready to do so.
