From 4 to 11 June, the city of Yasmine Hammamet will host the first session of the Yasmine Hammamet International Film Festival.
During the festival, 65 films from 21 countries from five continents, crowned and participating in major international film festivals, will be shown.
During a press conference held today in the Mediterranean city, Yasmine Hammamet, which was devoted to presenting the demonstration and shedding light on its most prominent paragraphs, Festival Director General Mokhtar Al-Ajimi said that the Yasmine Hammamet International Film Festival is “cinema in its essence, cultural and touristic in its dimensions,” noting that the festival will be unique from other festivals. The International Film Festival will show the best international films and the best films participating in major international film festivals.
He highlighted that the celebration of these films will be by awarding the festival’s “Golden Sail” award to the best films that will participate in the feature film competitions in which 12 films will compete, including two films from Tunisia (Communion by Najib Belkadi and Fartato al-Dahab by Abdelhamid Bouchnak) and the long documentaries in which 6 will participate. Films, including two films from Tunisia (an Arabic version by Reem Al-Tamimi and “Wee A Noon” by Mahmoud Jemni) and a short film competition in which 12 films will participate, including 4 Tunisian films.
He noted that within the framework of the festival, a group of out-of-competition films will be made, including 10 films in the Cinema and Heritage section, 6 films in the Cinema and Memory section, and other films whose number has not been set within the Panorama section.
He explained that the committee for selecting films participating in the festival in its founding session was keen to select films that bear humanitarian issues and are not purely commercial or author’s classified films, in order to attract the largest number of fans of the seventh art.
He continued, “The International Film Festival Yasmine Hammamet has a new cultural and touristic birth, in which the initiative of one of the largest tourism companies that operates in the space of the Mediterranean city and 3 hotel units at the Yasmine Hammamet tourist station received the support of the Ministries of Tourism and Culture and a number of private institutions supporting the festival in order to enrich the cultural tourism product and revitalize the station. Tourist Yasmine Hammamet to become an international cinema destination.
For his part, the General Manager of “Al-Salm” Company, Ali Miawi, indicated that his organization, which initiated the idea of organizing a distinguished international cultural event in the space of the Mediterranean city at the Yasmine Hammamet tourist station, was keen to devote, through this film festival, the cultural dimension on which the Mediterranean city project was built as a bridge between Civilizations which is based on the combination of tourism, entertainment and culture.
On the other hand, the festival administration indicated that it had invited a number of Tunisian and foreign cinema celebrities, confirming the presence of “Yamir Kusturica”, Al-Nasser Khemir and Yamina Bin Qiqi, in addition to a number of members of the festival’s competition jury, including, in particular, Athaltba Lecce from Venezuela, Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud and Mohamed Maghraoui, Najwa Najjar from Palestine.
The festival authority was keen to organize a cinema forum that will be devoted to discussing with a number of specialists, researchers, people of the sector, the profession and critics on “the identity of films and any nationality held by the director’s, producer’s, or filming location” in addition to organizing 5 specialized lessons “Master Class” that will be furnished by experts from the world of cinema. From Tunisia and from the world, with the participation of film makers, professionals, producers, directors, actors, directors of photography and film students in order to create interaction between professionals and contribute to strengthening the knowledge and professional balance of activists in the film field.
