Manchester City, the English club, unveiled, on Friday, May 13, the statue dedicated to its legend and historical scorer, Argentine Sergio Aguero, in the presence of the player and club officials.

This came on the anniversary of crowning the league for the third time in the club’s history and the first since the Emirates acquired its ownership in 2012, with a goal scored by Aguero in stoppage time.

The statue is located on the eastern side of the “Ittihad” stadium, to join the statues of the Belgian Vincent Kompany and the Spaniard David Silva, and the statue was executed by plastic artist Andy Scott, using thousands of welded pieces of galvanized steel.

“The permanent statue of Aguero commemorates his exceptional contribution to the success of the club and, in particular, his pivotal role at what is one of the finest moments in sporting history and will be remembered forever by Manchester City fans around the world,” the club said in a statement.

Manchester City unveils statue of legend Sergio Aguero

Ten years ago, Manchester City crowned the English Premier League after a long wait of nearly 40 years, and came at the expense of neighbor and rival Manchester United.

City needed to score two goals during the injury time of the Queens Park Rangers match to officially crown the Premier League, while Manchester United was waiting for the match to end at the “Etihad” stadium for the title to go to its treasury, but the Bosnian Edin Dzeko and Aguero had a different opinion and scored two goals in time instead of Lost, so the title goes to the “Citizens” treasury with a goal difference.

Aguero commented on the matter, saying: “Actually, this is a very good thing for me. Seeing myself ten years ago is very moving. I managed to win many titles in these ten years and I was able to help the club to be one of the best clubs in the world. I am very grateful to the club for this.” The statue is an acknowledgment of my career as a footballer in Manchester. It is very special.”

It is noteworthy that Aguero did not finish his career in Manchester City, as he moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2021, but he did not last long with the Catalan club, as heart problems forced him to retire from football.
