Finance Minister Siham Al-Boughdiri Nomsieh said today, Wednesday, May 11, 2022, in Hammamet, regarding the course of negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, that the initial talks with the Fund were positive, indicating that Tunisia is waiting for the International Fund to announce the official launch of negotiations with Tunisia.
On the sidelines of her opening of the work of the International Forum of Francophone Accountants and Auditors, the Minister expressed her hope to “conclude the agreement with the International Monetary Fund, especially since it was adopted when preparing the Finance Law to complete the country’s needs of funds to support public financial balances.”
She noted that the Prime Minister had announced, during the celebration of the International Labor Day, the government’s commitment to all its current and previous pledges, based on “faith in the continuity of the state,” noting that Tunisia will repay loans worth more than 3,500 million dinars during the month of May.
She added that the government is committed to repaying Tunisia’s loans and securing the payment of wages and all expenses pledged by the state, including social transfers and support expenses.
On the other hand, she stressed the importance of Tunisia’s hosting of the International Forum of the International Federation of Francophone Experts and Auditors, especially since the forum will focus on ways to strengthen efforts to combat money laundering, tax evasion and the parallel economy.
It noted that Tunisia has made important strides in this field by engaging in the International Agreement on Transparency and Information Exchange, and has “successfully” passed international tests to determine the extent to which obstacles to combating money laundering and tax evasion have been overcome, after establishing a legislative and institutional system to confront these scourges and developing the exchange of information related to financial crimes and money laundering. money.
With regard to confronting the parallel economy, she highlighted that Tunisia has enacted several legislations to address the parallel economy and continues its work within the framework of major reforms to confront economic pests and financial crimes and combat tax evasion.
For his part, the President of the International Federation of Francophone Accountants and Auditors Salah El-Din Al-Zahaf indicated that the attendance of about 200 experts and specialists in the work of the International Forum of the Federation, which is celebrating its fortieth, came to confirm the position of this sector nationally and internationally in boosting the economy and improving the business climate.
He highlighted that the scientific forum, which will deal with axes including addressing money laundering and terrorist financing and dealing with the parallel economy, in addition to the role of the federation in achieving sustainable development goals and raising the challenges of digitization, confirms the common concern of the members of the federation to enhance the role of the accountant in development and to devote transparency and integrity and to propose solutions to major problems faced by many Francophone countries.
He indicated that the forum will provide an opportunity to exchange successful experiences in dealing with the problems of money laundering and terrorist financing and dealing with the parallel and unregulated economy.
