Thousands of football fans flocked to Katara Cultural Village in the Qatari capital, Doha, on the evening of Tuesday, May 10, to attend the closing ceremony of the presentation of the original trophy of the World Cup, at the end of the promotional tour in the State of Qatar, which began on May 5.

The fans spent an enjoyable time watching a range of cultural activities and performances, in the presence of a number of distinguished guests, including Cafu, the Brazilian football legend and Qatar’s heritage ambassador, the former captain of the Brazil national team, which won the World Cup twice in 1994 and 2002.

Khaled Ali Al-Mawlawi, Deputy Director General of Marketing, Communications and Tournament Experience at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, expressed his happiness with the celebration of the cup, which witnessed a great turnout of fans in Qatar, with only a few months left until the start of the Qatar World Cup 2022.

Al-Mawlawi said: “The closing ceremony at Katara Cultural Village was another wonderful evening on the way to the 2022 World Cup, while the enthusiasm is rising in Qatar and the region and we are getting closer to the start of the historic tournament.”

He added, “We were pleased to see thousands of enthusiastic fans who came especially to participate in this great celebration, filled with feelings of happiness and joy, with the start of the countdown to the launch of the largest sporting event, which is being held for the first time in the Arab world and the region.”

The closing ceremony is the culmination of a series of events organized by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, and coincided with the start of the 200-day countdown to the start of the Qatar 2022 World Cup on November 21. Fans had the opportunity to take memorial photos with the World Cup, in addition to being given the opportunity to win tickets for the opening match of the World Cup, which brings together the teams of Qatar and Ecuador.

The promotional tour, which started from May 5 to 10, included a group of prominent tourist attractions across Qatar, including Aspire Park, Souq Waqif, Msheireb Downtown Doha, Place Vendome, in addition to Doha Festival City. The cup was also hosted at the house of Muhammad bin Jassim, in addition to displaying it in a number of companies and institutions, including the health and education sectors.
