The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Al-Ahly Club, Mahmoud Al-Khatib, called for an emergency meeting to be held on Sunday, May 15, to consider the decision taken by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to hold the final match of the African Champions League in a non-neutral stadium, as he put it.
The date of the meeting was set in history, because it comes the day after the two second leg matches of the semi-finals of the African Champions League, to get to know the two sides of the final match officially. Al-Khatib instructed the club’s legal affairs to study the file completely in accordance with the regulations of the International and African Football Associations, and to submit a report to the board of directors at the aforementioned meeting, in preparation for taking decisions that preserve the club’s artistic and moral rights, according to what was reported by the official Al-Ahly club website.
These developments come one day after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the selection of Morocco to host the final match of the African Champions League 2022, and set the current May 30 as the date for its establishment in the “Mohammed V” stadium, justifying its decision to grant the hosting right to Morocco by saying in a statement published in Its official website: “The Confederation of African Football has received two offers from the Senegalese and Moroccan federations to host the 2022 CAF Champions League final, but the Senegalese federation withdrew its bid.”
Al-Ahly is close to qualifying for the final of the African Champions League 2022, after beating Algeria’s ES Setif 4-0 in the first leg of the semi-final, as well as the Moroccan Wydad team, which defeated Petro Atletico of Angola 1-3 away.
