Al-Jabali added, during the periodic meeting held by the Ministry of Interior today, Tuesday, May 09, 2022, that there is coordination with various parties, such as civil protection, national committees to confront disasters, and regional and local unions for agriculture, in order to protect the harvest season, indicating that the burns are distributed between intentional and other burns. face error.
For his part, Brigadier General Walid Al-Sharni, a representative of the National Guard Administration, said that fire crimes are tackled annually, and that work is continuing in this direction, whether with regard to deliberate fires or those found by mistake.
He revealed that the number of arson fires that occurred in the first quarter of this year reached 65, and 14 of the 54 people involved were arrested.
In turn, Brigadier Moez Taraa, the official spokesman for the National Civil Protection Office, confirmed that the total civil protection interventions during last April amounted to 9,893, compared to 8,074 during the same period in 2021, including 818 interventions related to firefighting.
He explained that the recorded fires during the first week of May witnessed an increase, reaching 385 fires and requiring 47 daily interventions, adding that the number of fires that occurred on Eid al-Fitr reached 110 fires, distributed between 60 fires on the first day and 50 on the second day.
Regarding the human losses caused by these fires, he stated that two deaths were recorded between May 1 and 6, and 41 people were injured, and 4 deaths were recorded during the fires that took place last April.
He highlighted the speed of the civil protection agents’ intervention to put out the fires, contrary to what is being promoted by some, indicating, in contrast, that there are other data that make the process of responding to fires difficult and help their spread, stressing that the used clothing factory fire in the Ben Arous region was completely extinguished yesterday, Monday, after it continued The process of putting out the fire for a week.
As for the protection of the agricultural crop, Taraa confirmed the existence of potential threats mainly related to not taking the necessary precautions while using agricultural equipment, or the lack of awareness of the danger of setting fire, or the high temperatures that are reflected on cutting glass, in addition to the threat of some perverts to burn farmers’ agricultural crops , Or targeting grain collection centers to cause confusion.
He stated that work is being done to secure crops, by creating mobile teams to strengthen civil protection units in areas with dense vegetation cover, to create seasonal centers to reduce intervention deadlines, and to monitor random estuaries adjacent to forests and farms, in addition to directing several recommendations emanating from the National Committee for Disaster Response in order to address and fire prevention.
