The municipality of Tunis and the International Association of French-speaking Mayors signed, Monday evening, at the Tunis Municipal Palace, a supplementary annex to a donation agreement to finance an inventory project, digitize and value the municipality’s properties for preservation and development.

The agreement was signed by Mayor Souad Abdel Rahim and the Secretary-General of the International Association of French-speaking Mayors “Pierre Payet” in a procession attended by representatives of the media and municipal officials.
During the signing procession, the signal was given to launch a program to support the efficiency of municipal employees and cadres, in cooperation with the American Columbia University in Tunis, a program that will enable them to improve their disposal of municipal property, and help the rest of the republic’s municipalities to implement their own inventory, digitization and valuation projects.

The Mayor of Tunis expressed her gratitude to the French-speaking Association of Mayors for this support, which will include other projects, the most important of which is the creation of a municipal television station.

She explained in a media statement that the endowment agreement, which has been in force for more than a year, will be extended under this annex to December 2023 to complete the implementation of the inventory, digitization and valuation project, which is fully funded by the International Association of French-speaking Mayors.

She added that a studies office has been set up at the disposal of the municipality, to draw up the necessary strategy to preserve municipal property, provide the necessary equipment for the project, and conduct several inspections to preserve municipal property.

She stated that the number of properties listed in the project is 4786, of which 2,226 are in the public domain and 2,530 are in the private domain, stressing that information about these properties will be updated on the occasion of the inventory project and the completion of their registration, as only 1,757 of them are currently registered.

It also stated that 4 properties have been registered according to terms of reference, for exploitation within the scope of partnership with the private sector, and some of them will be prepared to build municipal residential neighborhoods or sell them to the private sector.

For his part, Pierre Payee said that this project falls within the framework of a “very good” partnership between local authorities and the central government, represented in the modernization of the disposal of municipal property, which is of great importance to the Tunisian state, according to his assessment.

The Mayor of Tunis and the Secretary-General of the International Association of French-speaking Mayors then went to the headquarters of the American Columbia University in Tunis, to inspect the launch of the continuous training process for the staff and frameworks of the municipality of Tunis in the field of improving the management and valuation of municipal property.

In a media statement, Pierre Payee confirmed that the International Association of French-speaking Mayors has been cooperating with the municipality of Tunis for more than 40 years, and that the Tunis municipality “played a very important role in this organization,” as he said, as the mayor of Tunis, Souad Abdel Rahim plan Vice President of the International Association.
