Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has agreed with Germany coach Hans Flick to take a break next June, and not to join the German national team for the Nations League.
And the German Federation revealed, on Wednesday, May 4, in a statement on its official website, that goalkeeper Ter Stegen has always confirmed his happiness to join the national team, but he will miss the next training camp in preparation for the upcoming benefits.
The Barcelona goalkeeper commented on the decision, saying: “On the other hand, after three intense seasons without a summer vacation, I am happy that the national coach agrees with me on my need for this break, and he supports me in this decision.”
For his part, coach Flick confirmed that he spoke with Stegen openly and in detail about his personal position in the national team and in Barcelona, noting at the same time that Mark is one of the best goalkeepers currently in the world.
The German national team will enter a short camp in the Spanish city of Marbella from May 23 to 27, before the start of its campaign in the new edition of the Nations League, while it will play its first match against Italy, the European champion, in Bologna on June 4.
Three days later, he will play against England in Munich, before traveling to the Hungarian capital Budapest to face her national team on the 11th of next month, and the return match against the “Azzurri” will be held on the 14th of the same month in Mönchengladbach.
It is noteworthy that Stegen played 46 games with Barcelona during the current football season in various local and continental tournaments in which the team participated, with a total of 4200 minutes, while a group of analysts saw it as a weakness due to his role in losing many points.
The German goalkeeper played 28 international matches with his country, and was crowned with him in the Confederations Cup in 2017, while his participation remained few with the “machines” team, given the presence of Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who participates mainly.
